Honda will know how good their engine is after Singapore

Honda introduced their latest version of their engine at the Belgian Grand Prix. However, according to Tyoharu Tanabe, it is only after Singapore that they can determine whether the engine is working as planned and if it is competitive.

"The data collected looks good, but when you talk about competitiveness, it's harder to say," Tanabe told RACER. "The aerodynamic adjustment on Monza is special and the effect of the slipstream is huge, so we have more need time to analyze that.

“I would like to see the Singapore data with a lot of downward pressure. Then we will have a clearer picture of our position. Other cars have also improved a lot in the last two races, so it is difficult."

The high-speed nature of both Monza and Spa makes it hard to determine how good the engine is. At Monza especially, a lot of speed was gained from the stripped-down aerodynamics and downforce meaning that we will have to wait until after Singapore to see if the engine has been improved.
