Formula 1 practice sessions and W series will score superlicence points

Starting next season, Formula 1 practice sessions will score superlicence points which a driver needs to race full-time in the sport. To drive in a practice session during a Grand Prix weekend, a driver will need 25 points already loaded on their superlicence.

Those 25 points need to be boosted with a further 15 points before a driver reaches the 'golden' 40 points. Some of those additional points can be found in practice sessions. Drivers will need to drive 100km during a free practice session to score one point. One point is available each weekend. Drivers are only permitted to pick up 10 points from practice sessions within a three-season window.

Last weekend, Nicholas Latifi drove in FP1 for Williams ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.

As well as this announcement, the W series will be officially recognised as a qualifying category. Drivers will be able to pick up superlicence points from competing in this event.
