Green on Racing Point start: "I think we’re just slightly behind"

It was a disastrous 2018 for Force India, now Racing Point and their technical director Andrew Green has revealed the team’s slow start has been caused by the financial issues which brought to an end Force India’s time in F1.

Force India went into administration midway through the 2018 season, resulting in them losing all the points they had collected up and until that point. Lawrence Stroll eventually saved the team, re-branding them as Racing Point for the 2019 season as well as bringing in his son Lance as one of the team’s drivers.

Stroll’s P9 in Australia and Sergio Perez’s P8 in China are the constructor’s best results so far and Green admitted they’re still feeling the effects of last season.

“It’s been a difficult start,” Green said China over the race weekend.

“I think the competition is incredibly tight in the midfield this year – tighter than I’ve known it for a long time, I think we’re just slightly behind.

“We’ve got a plan to obviously bring us back to our target level of performance, it’s going to take some time.

“We have to remember that the car was originally conceived in the mid to late part of last year when the team was in serious trouble, we were really struggling at that point.”
