Mick Schumacher could get a surprise testing opportunity in 2019 with Ferrari. According to Italian Motorsport, Schumacher is expected to sign with the Ferrari Young Driver Academy sooner rather than later which could open the door to an F1 test later this year.

Although he is yet to officially sign, the details are reportedly set to be finalised soon making Schumacher a member of the Italian team's reserve of young talent. The 19-year-old may also get an F1 test as part of any deal, with testing days in Bahrain and Barcelona both on the table.

The European Formula 3 champion will make his F2 debut his season with PREMA Powerteam which will attract attention already but should he get an opportunity to step into a Ferrari seat like his father Michael, the F1 world will be watching.

Other academy drivers including Marcus Armstrong and Callum Illot are likely to be shuffled down the pecking order at Ferrari should any deal go ahead with Schumacher.

Antonio Giovinazzi also remains an option for Ferrari although his first full season in F1 with Sauber will likely take precedence leading to an opportunity for one of the academy prospects should Ferrari choose to go that route.
