Carlos Sainz has been given a two-year contract by McLaren, but the Spanish racer hopes to stay with the team for the long run and hopefully benefit from the team's resurgence.

Sainz was at Renault last season as has moved to McLaren in the hope that the team will return back to their winning ways in the next few years. McLaren are the second most successful team in the history of Formula 1 behind Ferrari and Sainz is hoping to still be involved with the team after they develop and return to winning ways in the next few seasons.

McLaren has undergone some major transformation in the past year, restructuring its management and its technical department.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown recently revealed that the outfit's recovery process will follow a five-year plan, and Sainz hopes to be part of his team's long-term plan.

"I have a two-year agreement with the team, but as a driver and also a fan of McLaren, I want to see the team grow," Sainz told Spain's Marca.

"I want to do a good first year and a good start when it comes to integrating into the McLaren family, but my goal at the moment is to spend several years here.

"I will go from year to year, but I want to be one of the key pieces that will help McLaren get back to the top."

McLaren has a long way to go before they reach the heights of world championship success which they are aiming for but it seems as if they have a strong plan in order to return to the top.
