Former F1 driver on Sargeant: 'Think things have already been decided against him'

Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes Williams has already made a decision on the future of Logan Sargeant. The American is not making an impressive debut season so far, although Sargeant did make a handsome Q3 at Zandvoort. However, Schumacher, in his column for Sky Sports, hints that he thinks Williams has already made a decision on his seat for next year.

Crashes at Zandvoort

Williams driver Logan Sargeant made it to the third part of qualifying for the first time in his Formula 1 career. During the session, however, he soon parked his car in the tyre stacks. Despite this, Sargeant was allowed to start from the tenth starting position in the race at Zandvoort. In a weekend where he seemed to be getting good results for the first time, the American also crashed in the race, caused by a hydraulic problem on his Williams.

Before the start of the weekend, Schumacher spoke with Williams team boss James Vowles, noting to the German that the team boss seemed pleased with Sargeant's performance. He commented as follows: "When we interviewed team boss Vowles during the race weekend, I thought he was genuinely happy with Sargeant.

'I think they have already made a decision, to Sargeant's disadvantage'

Schumacher, also formerly employed by Williams, thinks Sargeant's reaction after his crash in the race is telling. The American seemed completely worn out after his crash and returned to the paddock late. Schumacher thinks he knows why: "When Sargeant was so broken after the race, I had the impression that there had already been a meeting where his future was decided, and then to his detriment. But that's just a feeling."
