Liam Lawson may give a demonstration in the legendary Red Bull RB7 at the 12 Hours of Bathurst next weekend, Speedcafe reveals.

When it was announced that Daniel Ricciardo was unavailable for the demonstration, it was only a matter of time until it was announced that the New Zealander would drive the car that Sebastian Vettel won the F1 championship with in 2011. That has now been confirmed. "I'm super excited! I've never been to Bathurst before, so it will be a first for me," Lawson said.

Familiar car

"It's a circuit I've done a lot on the sim. Being from New Zealand, Supercars is a series I grew up with, especially with the Bathurst 1000. It's always been one of the biggest events I've known." Lawson is not unfamiliar with the RB7; he has had the opportunity to drive the car in question before and that was "one of the coolest experiences of my life".

As Red Bull Racing's reserve driver, Lawson is the first point of contact should a replacement for Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez be needed during the Formula 1 season. He has already participated in some free practice and testing for the Milton Keynes-based team and sister team AlphaTauri.
