Pirelli call claims to help Mercedes "what nonsense"

Pirelli are not pleased about the rumours that suggested they were helping Mercedes. They introduced a tyre with a tinner tread for Grands Prix in Barcelona, France and Britain.

In the first two of these races, Lewis Hamilton managed to get into pole position and go on to win the race while the Ferrari cars struggled.

This sparked the claims that Pirelli were helping the German team. But today, Pirelli have labelled these claims as "nonsense"

Mario Isola, head of Pirelli said: "It did not matter much or there were also blisters on Silverstone. If we had used the normal tyre, then many drivers had problems. With the new band, the fans could finally see a real race.

"It is of course nonsense that we respond to a certain team. We provide everyone with Pirelli - so for us, it does not benefit if a certain team wins."

Claim well and truly dismissed.
