Renault concentrating on keeping P4

Renault secured a double points finish in their home Grand Prix this weekend with eighth and ninth place at the French GP and team boss Cyril Abiteboul believes that they are still improving.

Renault extended their lead over McLaren to 22 points in the race for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship at Paul Ricard, and the team have now had both cars placed in the top ten on five occasions this season.

It could have been even better for Renault in the South of France, as Carlos Sainz ran as high as third in the opening laps and looked set to finish sixth before an MGU-K failure saw him drop to eighth.

“We had a decent finish with a bit of frustration,” said Abiteboul. “It was pretty much a perfect weekend from Carlos, so I feel sorry for him and losing some well-deserved places due to the MGU-K failure.

“We are still consolidating that fourth position and are now five points ahead of our entire 2017 points tally after only eight races.

“We are getting stronger and we must employ all the support we feel from French Grand Prix this weekend to keep pushing.”
