Leclerc not aiming to become "obsessed" with beating team-mate

Often, particularly further down the grid, drivers focus hard on trying to out-qualify their team-mate and beat them on a Sunday. But Charles Leclerc claims he isn’t going to get bogged down in this battle.

The Sauber driver is currently beating team-mate Marcus Ericsson having finished inside the points in three of the last four Grands Prix. He has also been linked to replacing Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari next season.

“In the end, this is important as in Formula 1 the only one who has the same car as yourself is your team-mate, so it’s good to be in front, but it’s not an obsession,” said Leclerc.

“I’ll obviously always work to be in front as it’s my target, but we also need to work well together to push the team forward and develop the car, but that’s what we did until now so I’m happy.”

Going into the French Grand Prix this weekend, and ultimately the tripleheader, Leclerc is 14th in the Drivers standings, three places and 8 points above Ericsson.
