Todt confident Ferrari will stay in F1

FIA President and former Ferrari boss Jean Todt expects the team to stay in the sport if a “good format” is set.

Ferrari have threatened to quit the sport numerous times since Liberty Media’s takeover, and cynics have suggested that these are empty threats to try and get what they want from the sport.

The Italian team is the only to have competed in every year of the Formula 1 World Championship since the sport’s formation in 1950.

Ferrari has complained over engine regulations and prize money in recent times, but Todt believes that Ferrari are very likely to stay.

“Ferrari is an iconic brand,” said Todt.

“There are several reasons for that, and one of them is that the sport is very important for them. Ferrari profits from racing and racing profits from them.

“I’m confident that if we set up a good format, they will continue to be interested.”
