A number of circuits are in danger of disappearing from the calendar in 2023. Guenther Steiner can imagine that the Monaco Grand Prix will no longer be held next year.
More and more circuits have to fear for their future in Formula 1. Due to the growing popularity of the sport, more and more countries are interested in organising a race, which means circuits have to fight for a place on the calendar.
According to rumours, the Belgian Grand Prix is in great danger of disappearing from the calendar after this year. The Monaco GP would also be at risk. The circuit is a true classic and will be on the calendar for the 79th time in 2022. Whether the circuit will be on the calendar next year, is not yet certain.
F1 wants to adapt calendar
"We would love to keep all the races, but that cannot happen," Steiner confirms in an interview with RTL. Monaco could indeed fall victim to the growing calendar. "I can imagine it," says the Haas team boss.
Steiner understands that the sport has plans to make changes. "We need to bring the sport to countries where it hasn't raced for a long time." For example, F1 would like to travel to South Africa in 2023 for a Grand Prix. Steiner also stresses that the sport would like to race in Germany again, but commercially that is not possible at the moment due to a lack of interest from promoters.
