Windsor: 'Don't underestimate Verstappen's performance'

Peter Windsor analyzes qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix. He says that Max Verstappen 's performance should not be underestimated and that we have seen the reigning world champion on a high.

In his YouTube video he says: "It was over Alonso and the Alpine and you can say 'wow he was that close to Max'. If you're Verstappen and you're out to get pole for the Canadian Grand Prix, 0.7 is a pretty emphatic advantage bearing in mind your nearest championship rival [Charles Leclerc] is at the back of the grid and the odds were that he was going to be on pole anyway."

Windsor says it was a good day for Verstappen and thought he drove beautifully. "I thought and what was really nice was to see Max in the full wet using the lines that we've come to know and love that he uses in the wet way around the outside usually looking for the grip."

He continued: "Forget the apex of a normal dry line this was Verstappen absolutely at his peak in a car he felt at one. In the wet it all balances out and a lot of other factors come into play."

Downforce

Windsor says that in terms of top speeds, there wasn't much difference between the Red Bull, Alpine and even the Mercedes. "But of course, what we don't know is how much additional downforce the Red Bull has in the wet, we can guess a lot compared to Mercedes in the wet." The British journalist continues his analysis: "It was interesting because the top speeds were similar relatively, because the track was drying all the time, and because off line it was all about delicacy and subtle movements, it was a different qualifying session, wonderful to watch." The Briton concludes: "We can't underplay Max's performance today."
