Mercedes will have left Imola with mixed feelings. On the one hand, there was the handsome fourth place of George Russell, who thus showed that the W13 does have potential. On the other hand, however, there was the disappointing result of Lewis Hamilton, who came no further than thirteenth place. Team boss Toto Wolff insists that his star driver did not get the material he deserved.

Wolff looks back on a weekend he describes as mostly difficult. "George did a great job to finish P4 from an unpromising starting position but with Lewis, we didn't give him the tools or track position to show his true pace," the team boss said in a Mercedes press release.

However, the German racing stable did learn a lot from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and that learning process continues in the wind tunnel and simulations. "We have found several directions for improving the car," continued the Austrian. In Miami, Mercedes will therefore start experimenting to correlate those simulations.

He further reveals that both drivers have been in the simulator in the run-up to the Miami Grand Prix and that updates for the upcoming races are being busily worked on at the factory. "This team has shown its resilience over many years and the difficult start to this season has lit a fire within every team member, determined to put it right," Wolff said.
