With Audi's arrival in sight for 2026, Andreas Seidl, CEO of the F1 team Audi, talks about how the Formula 1 project is going. The former McLaren team boss knows the team need to be realistic with their expectations.

Audi well on their way

"We are on the right track," Andreas Seidl told Auto, Motor und Sport. "Looking at the progress of the project in Neuburg, Adam Baker started building the team and infrastructure at Audi Formula Racing GmbH as early as 2022. Testing of all components for the engine began in 2023." Currently, the team and infrastructure are largely operational. "Combined with the new regulations in 2026, we should have the ideal conditions to make a good start as a factory team."

With the new 2026 regulations, Audi are in a new playing field compared to now. However, this does not mean that Audi has an advantage, according to Seidl. "We have to be realistic. It is clear that the established manufacturers have an edge. It is not only about technical details, but also about operational processes."

It was recently announced that German driver Nico Hülkenberg will come to Sauber, and therefore Audi, from 2025. "Obviously, given the current level of performance, it is absolutely important that we have the best possible driver combination. That is why Nico is a top choice," Seidl said. "There is no doubt that he is fast. With his experience, team spirit and great technical insight, he brings exactly what we need."
