This year the differences in Formula 1 seem to have become much smaller. Red Bull and Mercedes are battling it out at the top. Just below, there are three teams who are very evenly matched. And all this while the new regulations should have come into force this year.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic that did not happen. The new rules only come into force next year in Formula 1. This year little changed. The teams have come a lot closer together.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff told Motorsport.com that it is not strange that the differences are so small now. "If the rules remain the same, the differences become smaller and the field moves closer together. For the frontrunners the gains become smaller and smaller, even with more effort. At some point, the teams that are behind also make a move in terms of form and then convergence occurs."

Totally different field

He is of the opinion that the field will be completely different next year. "I can promise you that we will have a different situation next year, the field will be completely different again. Maybe Mercedes will no longer be in the lead, but we will all start again."
