LIVE: First free practice of the Italian GP

2020-09-04 10:30:00 by Matt Gretton

One week after the Belgian Grand Prix, the next race weekend is already upon us. In Italy, the drivers will record their first laps on the Monza circuit on Friday morning.

The temple of speed

Monza is nicknamed "the temple of speed". And the circuit near Milan has that nickname for a reason. One of Kimi Raikkonen's laps here in 2018 became the fastest lap ever in Formula 1. His average speed over the Italian circuit was 268.587 kilometres per hour in qualifying.

Ferrari will be at home but without an audience. Ironically, for the Scuderia, that might be better. The team is underperforming and finished in P13 and P14 last weekend in Spa.
