It is common knowledge in the world of Formula 1 that Liberty Media want to add a second race in the US, and bring the pinnacle of motorsport to Miami. It looks as if the possibility of the event coming to fruition is a step closer after a key vote went in favour this week.

There had been talks for a race to be held around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins but it hit a snag when locals voiced their concern with regarding noise, air pollution and disruption. However, earlier in January, Formula 1 confirmed that they had consulted the relevant parties and had a new proposed track layout.

The latest update saw Miami commissioners vote 6-6 for legislation for the plans to be approved by the City of Miami Gardens and the county. As the result of the vote was a tie it is a major hurdle jumped for the plans.

“We are happy that the commissioners reaffirmed again today that the Hard Rock Stadium entertainment complex is a regional facility that exists to benefit all of Miami-Dade County,” Tom Garfinkle, CEO of the Miami Dolphins said as quoted by Motorsport-Week.

“We are glad to put this long-delayed vote behind us so we can begin to make the multi-million dollar private investment required to bring a race here, and have positive and productive conversations with local leadership about the many benefits that a global event of this nature brings.”
