Vettel-Leclerc clashes not "anything bad"

Former F1 driver Pierluigi Martini says that the clashes between Ferrari teammates Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc are nothing to worry about for the team, saying that competitive teammates will always lead to incidents. The Ferrari duo have had a few run-ins this year, most notably recently in Brazil, where both were forced to retire after contact.

Martini raced 119 Grands Prix in a career that lasted over a decade for mostly backmarker teams, and believes the scuffle between the pair will not escalate into a full-on dislike for each other.

He told Italian podcast F1 Pit Talk: “Rivalry always leads to hard confrontation.

“But I believe that what happened between Vettel and Leclerc wasn’t anything that bad. People made this thing bigger that it really was.

“This are things that happen when you have two very good drivers in the same team.

“Ferrari should not be thinking about what will happen next year between Vettel and Leclerc as the important thing is to give them a car that can beat Mercedes.”
