Wolff: It's a "real shame" Ferrari have got "an illness" with their car

Toto Wolff described Ferrari's mechanical issues as an "illness" after both Ferrari drivers were ruled out of qualifying due to separate issues. As a result, Lewis Hamilton had a surprisingly easy opportunity to storm to pole position.

Even though the problem benefitted Mercedes, team boss Toto Wolff said it was a shame to see Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc stuck in their garages for the final qualifying session.

"It's a shame for Ferrari and a shame for Sebastian in his home Grand Prix. It's a bit subdued in the crowd and Ferrari have an illness, and they need to cure that because we need them for a strong championship," Wolff said.

Valtteri Bottas wasn't able to tag along with his teammate Hamilton in Q3. Bottas was beaten by Max Verstappen and the Finn has some work to do if he wants to close the gap in the Formula 1 world championship this weekend. Wolff says he has "every chance" to win the German Grand Prix.

"[Bottas] is not far off, Lewis put in an incredible lap. Tomorrow, if the temperatures stay like this then Valtteri has every chance," Wolff told Sky Sports.
