F1 doing Silverstone negotiations in "reverse"

With Silverstone entering their last year of their contract with Formula 1 Chase Carey believes the race is one of the biggest in terms of worth and popularity but admits negotiations are still finely poised.

The BRDC activated the contract break clause in Silverstone’s contract in 2017 meaning the race will not be on the calendar in 2020 if a deal can’t be reached.

A potential London road race has been discussed but Carey, F1’s CEO is aware of the race’s worth.

"Silverstone is a valuable race," Carey told Sky Sports News' Craig Slater in Azerbaijan, who have just extended their contract in Baku until 2023.

"We appreciate what Silverstone has meant to fans.

“We are engaged with them to see where we can get to.

Carey went on to admit, they are trying to keep things quiet when it comes to negotiations.

"This sport historically seemed to like to talk in public before they talked in private.

“We're trying to do the reverse, talk in private and then address the public with what we've done.

"We're going to continue doing with what we think is the right thing, but we are engaged with Silverstone,” added the American.
