Sebastian Vettel believes Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher would be proud of what his son is achieving in motorsport. Four-time world champion and fellow countryman Vettel experienced Mick Schumacher firsthand as the pair partnered up for the team event in the Nations Cup Race of Champions.

Schumacher will also move closer to Vettel when he joins the Ferrari driver academy this year. Vettel spoke about how the seven-time world champion was his idol growing up and how proud the seven-time world champion would be of his son.

"I remember my first appearance and looking up to Michael, and now I'm a little bit older and teaming up with Mick," Vettel told Autosport at the Race of Champions in Mexico.

"We all know it would be more special to have Michael here [at the events] to witness the performance of Mick today. We still miss him. But I'm sure he would be proud of his son [to see him race in person]."

The names Schumacher and Ferrari certainly create a buzz when said together. Schumacher won five titles and 72 races for Scuderia, and his son is now closer to adding to the tally. He spoke about how proud he was to move closer to this goal.

"I'm hugely proud to be able to work with Ferrari, such a great team and a huge amount of history, especially combined with my dad," Schumacher told Motorsport.tv in Mexico last weekend.

"I'm really proud to be able to be part of it. All our hearts are very red."
