Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher - who won five of his seven world titles at Scuderia.

The 19-year-old was announced on Saturday as part of the new pool of young talent at Maranello.

"For someone like me who has know him from birth, there's no doubt welcoming Mick into Ferrari has a special emotional," Binotto said. "But we have chosen him for his talent and the human and professional qualities that have already distinguished him despite his young age."

Schumacher began his motorsport career back in 2015, racing for two years in Germany and in Italy (Formula 4).

The young German then competed in Formula 3, with his rookie season coming back in 2017, before winning the world championship in the motorsport category last year.

Schumacher will now make the step up to FIA Formula 2 with Prema, and it looks like the 19-year-old will make his testing debut for Ferrari in one of the in-season tests.
