The idea of scoring points during free practice has not convinced George Russell. He believes it will make teams less inclined to develop their cars. The Mercedes driver believes the cars should be given enough time to be fine-tuned.

A few months ago, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali insisted that it had become almost mandatory to change the format of the weekends. Either the final free practice on Saturday had to be scrapped or drivers will race for points in free practice.

"I think free practice should be about tuning the car, testing new things for the future, because we don't have testing," said Russell at F1only.fr. " If you go straight into a session where you can score points or have a reward, you are less likely to try new things," the Brit adds.
