Daniel Ricciardo says he is looking forward to a fun German Grand Prix tomorrow as he lines up in 20th position and last following a grid penalty for new engine components.

Speaking after qualifying, Ricciardo said that having had time to digest his situation and plan for the race ahead, he was looking forward to fighting through the pack on Sunday.

“I’ve had time to digest the penalty,” he told media back in the paddock.

“I was prepared for it. I’m now just thinking about the excitement I will have starting from the back. That will be fun.

“I would rather start from the front of course, but there is still some fun to be had for sure.”

The team opted to take new parts ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, a circuit suited to the RB14 much more than Hockenheim however Red Bull have surprised themselves with their pace this weekend.

“The long runs look pretty good so we will see,” he added.

“It looks like Lewis (Hamilton) and myself will be starting from the back so it’ll be fun, see who gets to the front quickest.”
