As the first free practice session came to an end, a lot of drivers opted to practice their starts. In the following lap, Mick Schumacher lost control of his car in the very wet conditions. He then hit the barrier at a high speed. Schumacher climbed out of the car without issue.

Schumacher's confidence

The son of seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher is fighting hard for his Formula 1 future. He doesn't yet have a contract for next season, but Haas and Ferrari are interested in keeping him for another year. Though this crash will not do his confidence any good just when he needs it the most.

It will now be a race against time for Haas to get the car fixed for the next session. The weather is extremely wet in Japan and Schumacher was a victim of aquaplaning. The German had a good session up until the crash. He set the 7th fastest time.
