Victor Martins Formula 3 champion after controversial ending

Victor Martins is the brand new Formula 3 champion after the main race at Monza. The Frenchman from ART received a five-second time penalty and finished fourth, but it proved enough to secure the title. Zane Maloney won the main race for the third time in a row. Prema duo Oliver Bearman and Jak Crawford gave their team the constructors' title with a double podium.

The championship had a controversial run. The race was stopped on lap 18, after a heavy crash between Kush Maini and Brad Benavides two laps earlier. As a result, it remained unclear for a long time who had won the race and who took the title. It took so long that the remaining four laps could have technically been completed.

Tension

That didn't happen and after minutes of tension and calculations, it became clear that Martins, despite his time penalty, was the official champion. The race was put back a lap before the safety car phase, so lap 15 counted for the results. The time penalties were applied accordingly and Martins became the official champion. Red Bull Racing junior Isack Hadjar was second for the season finale, but dropped back outside the top three in the championship. Behind Martins, Maloney and Bearman ended up in the final standings.
