Fernley: Force India have solved upgrade issue

Bob Fernley, deputy principal of Force India believes the team should have an easier time developing and upgrading its cars after it worked out a correlation issue between the factory and track.

Force India have struggled so far this season, with Esteban Ocon’s tenth place in Bahrain being the team’s solitary point this season, which is a poor return for a team that has finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship in the last two seasons.

Force India appear to have been overtaken by a host of teams, including McLaren, Renault and Haas, who are currently battling it out to claim Force India’s fourth place crown.

Fernley says that the team can no start to introduce major upgrades to the cars.

“We brought some parts to Bahrain which we couldn’t use because we had a correlation issue and we needed to get that baseline back in place,” he said. “That’s what we’ve done.

“So I think what will happen is the parts that were brought to Bahrain will be reintroduced later on as we can develop the correlation bit that we lost out on.”
