'FIA finds replacement for Russia GP'

The FIA decided last week not to hold a Grand Prix in Russia this season due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It seems to have been no problem for the organization to find another circuit, according to the Portuguese outlet CM Jornal.

Portimão would love to welcome the drivers back to Portugal. The director of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, as the circuit is called, is busy discussing the possibilities with the FIA and there is a good chance that the negotiations will turn out positive.

Reportedly, only Turkey and Germany are still in the race to thwart Portugal. Both countries would also love to host Formula 1 on September 25 for the 17th GP of the season, but are still behind their competitors.

Hamilton successful in Portugal

Formula 1 is in its third separate period of racing in Portugal. While a race in Portugal was common between 1958 and 1960, and then again between 1984 and 1996, it returned in 2020. For the past two seasons, Lewis Hamilton has proven to be the strongest driver of the weekend. This year, the British driver may therefore go for his third victory in a row at the circuit.
