OFFICIAL: Aston Martin appoints new CEO and chooses head of Mercedes

It's official. Aston Martin says goodbye to Andy Palmer as CEO as of August 1 and he makes way for Tobias Moers. As previous rumours had suggested, the British brand will be headed by Daimler/Mercedes from August onwards.
New CEO for Aston Martin
Moers has been at the top of the car market for years. He has held various management positions within Daimler AG for some 25 years and is currently the Chairman of the Executive Board as well as the CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. He held this position until 2013. However, this will change as of 2020.
"The board has determined that it is time for new leadership to implement our plans. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Andy for his hard work, personal commitment and dedication to Aston Martin Lagonda since 2014," said Lawrence Stroll in an Aston Martin press release.
"I am delighted to welcome Tobias to Aston Martin Lagonda. He is an exceptionally talented automotive professional and a proven business owner with a solid track record of many years at Daimler AG, with whom we have a long and successful technical and commercial partnership, with which we look forward to continuing", says Stroll about the new CEO.
Tobias Moers
"All my energy and that of Tobias will be devoted to building on the inherent strengths of the company, the brand, the technical and employee skills to enable Aston Martin to become one of the world's leading luxury car brands," concludes Stroll.
What this means for the future of Aston Martin in Formula 1 is as yet unknown. However, the link with Mercedes, Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton is quickly established and it seems a matter of time before more will become clear. Will Aston Martin be a B team, or will it be the next step for Daimler in Formula 1?
