Verstappen does not rule out a move to Mercedes: 'In which year?'
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen is not ruling out driving for Mercedes one day. In recent weeks, the Dutchman has been increasingly linked to a seat with Toto Wolff's team, for whom Verstappen has "a lot of respect" for.
With all the turmoil within Red Bull Racing, it remains to be seen how long Verstappen wants to remain part of the team. The Dutchman is clear that Helmut Marko should stay, but behind the scenes, it has also become clear that the Verstappen camp is unsure about a future at Red Bull Racing if Christian Horner stays on.
Could Verstappen go to Mercedes in 2025?
If Verstappen wants to leave, he has no shortage of offers. The triple world champion is mostly linked to Mercedes. Toto Wolff has a good relationship with the Verstappens and, since Lewis Hamilton's announced departure, also have a seat available for 2025. Wolff, therefore, made a bit of an appeal.
"I can understand that. It doesn't have any impact on me of what I would do. But I mean it's always nice to hear that. Toto and I, we had our little moments but that's normal between two teams battling for championships. But the respect has always been there. From my side, it doesn't change anything."
Asked if he would ever drive for Mercedes, Max replied evasively at first: '"In which year do you mean?" When told that the year doesn't matter, Verstappen says: "I don't know. I don't know what after 2028 happens. I don't know if I'm going to stay in F1 or if I'm going to continue. Maybe sign a new deal. I don't know that yet."
