Alfa Romeo/Sauber is nevertheless the first. Sort of. The Swiss team - now partly owned by Audi - presented a new design for its F1 car on Tuesday morning. But this is not what the 2023 car is going to look like. In fact, the 'new' car is part of a project by German graffiti artist BOOGIE.

In a press release, the Alfa Romeo team states that the project celebrates the start of the new Formula 1 season. The Swiss also want to use this car to bring the sport closer to the fans. Indeed, this spray-painted car can soon be seen in London and Zurich, and possibly also at the circuits that Formula 1 will visit this season. At the end of the season, the car will be auctioned. The proceeds will go to Save the Children.

Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for BOOGIE

BOOGIE is very happy with the collaboration with Alfa Romeo: “The opportunity to paint a Formula One car doesn’t come every day – it’s a once in a lifetime chance, and to do it for a team based in Switzerland has a special meaning for me. With my design, I have tried to convey the spirit of this team: the letters all coming together to form the art symbolise all the people, partners and organisations that contribute to create this car. Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake is a team – that goes beyond its name: it’s a group of people with a vision that is more than the sum of its parts.”

This is the first time Alfa Romeo has presented an - as they say themselves - Art Car.
