Lewis Hamilton cut his gap down to eight points in the World Championship title fight with Max Verstappen after dominating the Qatar Grand Prix at the Losail International Circuit. In the post-race interview, Hamilton explained how lonely his race was.

Hamilton started from pole position and kept the lead at turn one. He opened up a two-second gap at the start and was never challenged by another other driver.

"Thanks to all the people who came out today, thanks for coming. It was pretty straightforward and lonely at the front. I enjoy the races when you're battle through, but we needed those points today. Solid job from the team, I can't wait to watch the replay," Hamilton said.

In the race, there were some tyre failures including Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas: "I'm not sure why peoples tyres were going, probably the kerbs," he added.

Title fight on

There are two races left on the schedule in 2021. After a week off, the F1 circus heads down to Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi. Hamilton confirms he is feeling good ahead of those two races.

"To be at this point of the year with back to back wins is a great feeling. I'm feeling good. I'm really happy with the car, feeling fitter than ever, big thanks to Angela. Bring on the next two!"
