Lewis Hamilton tried to overtake Max Verstappen on lap 48 of the Brazilian Grand Prix, but the Dutchman went off track. As the race direction did not decide to intervene, Peter Windsor thinks it is important that the FIA make a clear statement.

It remains difficult for the stewards in Formula 1 to judge when a driver deserves a penalty. Although the rules are clear in motorsport, they always take snapshots and have to decide quickly. This is at the expense of the quality of the decisions, says Windsor on his YouTube channel.

"What we need now is a proper statement from Michael Massi saying we've got it wrong until now," he states. "There's no way in the world the guy on the inside should be penalizes if somebody on the outside trying to pass you runs out of road because you're using all the road."

Race control decision

Windsor sees that at other times race control do intervene. "It isn't fine if there's going to be more inconsistency. In other words if we have a repeat of what we saw in Austria. If that happens again then I will go ballistic."
