The 2021 World Championship battle is heating up on and off the circuit. Mercedes' appeal on a turn four incident in Brazil was denied and now the attention shifts towards the Qatar Grand Prix. According to Christian Horner, there are score marks on the rear wing of Mercedes that need to be investigated. Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes trackside engineer, denies this.

Score marks

The Mercedes rear wing has come under attention over the last few weeks. Max Verstappen had a close look and even touched it after qualifying last weekend, and score marks have been noticed. Red Bull team boss Horner says Red Bull will protest if they notice it again this weekend, but Mercedes say they don't have anything to worry about.

"We've had a look at it and there are no score marks. It seems to be a story that's not going away. From our point of view, we're happy with what we've got on the car, we've invited the FIA to look at it and they don't have any issue with what we've got. When we go to the circuit, we'll have a look at what's fastest and bolt it on the car," Shovlin told Sky Sports.

"We won't take advice from another team. There are mortar shells going across in both directions. The team has come together, with the weekend in Brazil with so much distraction in different areas, it was just heads down to get on with the job. The car has the pace to do that. Brazil was fantastic for our confidence in both world championships."
