Alpine did not have a bad weekend in Brazil, as Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso finished eighth and ninth. Both drivers managed to score points and that shows that the team spirit is very good, according to the team.

The fight between Ferrari and McLaren for third place in the Constructors' Championship has been much talked about, but meanwhile there is also a fight going on for fifth place. Alpine and AlphaTauri are currently tied with 112 points. To score as many points as possible in Brazil, Alpine had thought of sending Alonso past Ocon, so that the Frenchman could benefit from the DRS. The intention was to keep Pierre Gasly behind them. This did not work, but the 25-year-old driver is satisfied with the action.

"It was nice, an optimally applied team tactic. If we hadn't done it like that Gasly would have overtaken us easily. It was maybe a hard action, but fair. We showed that our team spirit is very good and we want to fight to the end. It was on the edge, but this is our only chance to beat them in the Constructors' Championship. We managed to keep the score even, which is nice," said the Alpine driver to Motorsport.com

Crossing the finish line with both cars is the most important thing

Alonso did not manage to finish ahead of Ocon, but he is still very happy with his performance. At the moment, the most important thing is to get both cars across the finish line, so unnecessary duels should be avoided. "Maybe you fight with each other at the beginning of the year, but now it's about scoring points with both cars. Then you shouldn't be racing against each other as teammates."
