With five races to go Lewis Hamilton will have to limit the damage. Max Verstappen seems to be the favourite and could advance further in the championship. At the FIA press conference the seven times world champion will discuss what he wants to do about it.

Verstappen won in Mexico in 2017 and 2018, but Hamilton won in 2019. However, the seven-time world champion insists Red Bull was faster in the last edition of the race as well. The goal on Sunday is still to win, says Hamilton. "Of course! As always," he is quoted on Speedweek.com. "Last time they were slightly faster than us here. It's a Red Bull track. We also had success here in the past, but only because Max made a mistake and got a penalty, but they were much faster than us."

"We haven't had any new parts on the car since Silverstone, but the others have kept coming up with new things. I think Red Bull Racing has the advantage here, but it's up to us to make the most of our opportunities. Hopefully that will be enough to put pressure on our opponent."

No engine change for Hamilton

There has been a lot of talk about Hamilton's engine and whether it should be changed. In any case, this weekend that will not happen, Hamilton confirmed: "Our engine is strong. As far as I'm concerned, we can make it until the end, so from today's point of view - no, no new engine."

Toto Wolff let it be known earlier this week that he would not be surprised if this year's world championship was decided by an accident. Hamilton made it clear during the press conference that he has never won a title that way and doesn't want to. "I want to win in the right way. Even if I lose, I want to be able to say afterwards: I did my best, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. I will try again."
