"It's no longer about throwing money to solve your problems."

Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi is annoyed that his team can't seem to get past P5. With next year's rule changes and budget cap, the Frenchman sees a golden opportunity. After all, it will no longer be all about throwing money.

Renault focuses on 2022

Renault fought its way up to P5 in a few years but now seems to be stagnating. The team rebranded itself as Alpine F1, but could not get past that mid-table in 2021 either. Rossi, on the other hand, sees an opening to the top shining in 2022.

In conversation with Motorsport.com the boss states, "The new regulations fall under the budget cap. That means that the recipe of the past years is not necessarily the recipe we will use next year. We have to adapt to the new context and I think we can do that."

It's not about moneymaking in F1 anymore

The counter is supposedly going to zero for Alpine. The problem is that a new era is dawning not just for Alpine, but for Formula 1 as a whole. Still, Rossi thinks there's a big chance for Alpine to make its way to the top starting next year.

"Because it's no longer about throwing money to solve the problems," Rossi states. "Everyone is at the same limit. It's more about how you execute and how you decide to allocate your investments." Alpine, therefore, relies on its experience that they have had for 45 years.
