Porsche is mentioned, Audi is said to be interested. In 2026 it could be that several new brands will enter Formula 1 as a team or engine supplier. This week the boss of Porsche said that his team only makes a comeback in Formula 1 with the right conditions. Already it seems very questionable whether the other teams will agree to these terms.

Marko disagrees

Getting into Formula 1 doesn't happen overnight. Infamous is the example of Honda, which lacked a lot of speed in the first years back at McLaren. Moreover, there were a lot of reliability problems. Only since the Japanese have joined the Red Bull family has Honda returned to top level. But the road was long, very long.

From a PR point of view, a brand like Porsche can't afford to dabble in Formula 1 for years. However, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko says new manufacturers should not count on unlimited testing straight away. "If other manufacturers come, they will want unlimited test bench times in the first instance," the Austrian told Auto Motor und Sport. "We don't think that's a good thing."

Red Bull also becomes an engine manufacturer

Red Bull will also be an engine manufacturer but has the advantage of working close with Honda already. Marko: "We see ourselves as a new manufacturer. Because the engines we're going to use until 2026 weren't developed by us. We have the intellectual rights to them, but it's a complicated story. We are allowed to use them, but they are not available in the sense of further development." Whether Red Bull will actually build engines independently from 2026 onwards? "We can do everything independently. If a collaboration presents itself that further increases our clout and our quality, then we will certainly discuss it."
