Verstappen and Red Bull forever? "They know how good Max is, Mercedes doesn't yet"

Max Verstappen has become a key player at Red Bull Racing. He started his career with the Red Bull family, and according to his father Jos Verstappen it's quite possible that he will stay with the same team throughout his career. The only condition is that the team continues to deliver a winning car.

The departure of Honda from Formula 1 has forced Red Bull to set up its own engine department, a project that has been in full swing for some time now. Verstappen is confident the team will succeed in delivering a competitive engine of its own. "Knowing Red Bull, they're really going for it," Verstappen senior said in an interview with Formule 1 Magazine.

He thinks Red Bull wants to be completely independent, so the team doesn't have to rely on another manufacturer. As a racing driver, his son plays an extremely important role in the development of its own engine, Jos states.

Verstappen happy at Red Bull for now

"Red Bull knows how good Max is, Mercedes doesn't yet. Maybe that's a good thing for them", Verstappen laughs. "How nice would it be if you start here and eventually stop? Why not? As long as he has a winning car", the driver from Limburg says about the possibility that Verstappen stays at Red Bull for his entire career.

According to Jos the relationship between his son and the team is extremely good. "We know what we can expect from each other. We click very well and we have a good time," he says. He thinks the combination Verstappen-Red Bull is perfect. For the time being Max is not ready to leave, as his current contract runs until the end of 2023.
