Formula 1 seems to benefit from the title fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen this season. While viewing figures are growing in Europe, American motorsport fans are also sitting in front of the television more and more.

This became clear during the United States Grand Prix last weekend. No less than 1.2 million people were watching the battle between Mercedes and Red Bull Racing on television. After the 2007 edition it was the most watched Formula 1 race ever in the country.

However, looking at other motor sports in America, Formula 1 still has some way to go. When we compare the last GP with a NASCAR race for example, there is still a big difference. That racing class reaches about 3 million viewers. The IndyCar is another story. The Indianapolis 500, for instance, was watched by 5 million people.

Formula 1 is growing in America

It is good news that Formula 1 almost broke a record with the GP in America this season, but it is too early to say that it can already compete with IndyCar and Nascar. However, with the second American race in Miami next season, Formula 1 can continue the line upwards. The American market can offer the sport something interesting both financially and sport wise in the coming years.
