With five Grands Prix to go, Carlos Sainz is looking forward to a few weeks' holiday. However, the Spaniard knows that teams face an even tougher season next season, where it is difficult to perform on a weekly basis.

The coronavirus crisis meant that several GPs were cancelled this year, but in 2022 the drivers will have to face up to it: Formula 1 will reach the magic number of 23 races in one season. For Sainz, it means less time to prepare.

"Next year will be tough for everyone," Sainz stated in conversation with Motorsport.com. "It's no secret that 2022 will be the most demanding season in F1 history. We drivers have to adapt. We have to make sure our energy levels stay high and be mindful of what we do so that we are still fresh at the end of the year."

Sainz will work on fitness

The Ferrari driver points to the toughest part of the year. "That's when the back-to-backs take place, that's when the long travel days start. I'm going to draw up a programme together with my people at home to appear as fresh as possible at the start of the second half of the season."
