Lewis Hamilton has not given up the fight with Max Verstappen at all. The Briton is twelve points behind his competitor in the world championship, but still has the feeling he can pass Verstappen at the end of the season. Father Anthony is proud of his son regardless.

The Mercedes driver's father saw several top drivers disappear from Formula 1 in recent years, but notes that his son is still part of a top team. It gives him a proud feeling, he says in an interview with Talksport.com.

"It’s very rare that you get to the age of 36, 37 years of age and still be able to compete at this level with drivers that are 10 years your junior," Anthony Hamilton states. "Lewis is the last of the mohicans if you think about it, he’s from the era of Rosberg, [Robert] Kubica, [Heikki] Kovalainen and all those guys have gone but you’ve still got Lewis who’s still here, he is in the new era with all these new young drivers and still the driver to beat."

Championship battle between Hamilton and Verstappen

This season Hamilton is hoping to win his eighth world title, although his father is not yet daring to say for sure. "There isn’t a huge amount of pressure on Lewis, but he’s competitive and every race that he competes in he wants to win."
