Lewis Hamilton saw his gap to Max Verstappen double in the world championship standings. In the remaining five races the Briton has to make up the difference of twelve points, although the Mercedes driver is not willing to think about that just yet.

Difficult races for Hamilton

It is striking that Verstappen and Red Bull often did well in the past races on tracks that should suit the Mercedes. In that respect, it doesn't look good for Lewis Hamilton. "We're going to Mexico and Brazil soon and those are circuits where Red Bull are usually very strong," Hamilton expressed his concerns to De Telegraaf.

"I don't know what we could have done differently here," Hamilton analyses his race. "The team did a great job and I'm also happy with my own performance. Max came in extremely early for his first stop and it was clear that track position was the key."

12 point gap

With five races to go Hamilton is looking at a nice gap in the championship. "I'm not thinking about the 12-point gap just yet. Unfortunately, we were not fast enough to win the race today, but we look at it race by race. But the coming races will definitely be tough for us."
