Max Verstappen often seems to be a cool guy who doesn't feel any pressure in the battle for the world title, but Robert Doornbos saw a moment during the United States Grand Prix that showed the pressure is definitely there for the Dutchman.

Flawless weekend for Verstappen

With pole position and victory in the United States Grand Prix Verstappen had an excellent weekend in Austin. During the review of Ziggo Sport commentators Robert Doornbos and Tom Coronel agree that the Dutchman had a virtually faultless weekend. "Only that start, which was not perfect", says Doornbos.

At the start Verstappen had to let his nearest rival go first. Lewis Hamilton had a slightly better start. "What exactly happened there I don't know, but other than that he hasn't made a move wrong this weekend."

Pressure stepped up on Verstappen

In the closing stages of the race, Hamilton got closer and closer on his fresher tyres. Even with the usually cool Verstappen, things were now getting very tense. Especially when he bumped into the Haas of Mick Schumacher. "You could see it there," Doornbos analysed the pressure he saw on Verstappen. "He had to get out of the way. What a hero, I'm enjoying this season immensely."

Doornbos was reminded during the race of the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, when Verstappen took his first victory by keeping Kimi Raikkonen behind him for laps. "You could see Verstappen now, as he did then, looking in his mirrors at certain set moments," Doornbos said.
