The rear wings of both the Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri cars at the US Grand Prix in Austin will not bear the usual Honda name, but that of Japanese car marque Acura, founded by Honda in 1986.

Red Bull Racing announces this on the official website of the team. As well as being prominently displayed on the car, the carmaker's name will also feature on the race overalls and helmet visors of all four Honda drivers.

Honda teams with Acura logo during GP United States

Acura is an old friend in Formula 1: the logo was first seen on the visors of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost during the 1989 United States Grand Prix. The last time was at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix, where Honda drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello wore the name.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is delighted to see the car brand back in Formula One. "As Honda's high-performance brand in North America, it seems only right that Acura should also be present at the pinnacle of motorsport. We are delighted to welcome them back for this year's United States Grand Prix, " explained Horner.

Will history repeat itself?

He also recalls an interesting detail about the first time the logo was seen in Formula 1. "I remember Alain Prost winning the United States Grand Prix in 1989 with Acura on his visor, so hopefully the brand's presence this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas will give us the same result," the Red Bull team boss said.
