The battle between Red Bull Racing and Mercedes this season is palpable in all areas. Not only do Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton battle it out on track, team bosses Christian Horner and Toto Wolff also make things difficult for each other. Robert Doornbos finds that understandable.

The analyst has to think back to the Dutch Grand Prix, where both Horner and Wolff sat down to answer questions. "They are two team bosses who don't like each other. You're so close to taking the title," Doornbos explained at Formula 1 Café on Ziggo Sport. "I see that Mercedes has outside competition for the first time in a long time. Toto has no influence on that."

According to Doornbos, that Mercedes was already feeling the pressure from the competitor at the beginning of the season is evident from the way Wolff was working to take the Austrians out of their concentration. For example, the team boss pointed at Red Bull's rear wing several times. "Quite sneaky, but at this level that's what happens during a title race", said Doornbos.

Mercedes and Red Bull still battle it out in six races

With six GP's to go Red Bull must now be in the hunt. Although Verstappen is six points ahead in the world championship, Mercedes' top speed seems to be a major weapon. This weekend in the United States will show whether Red Bull has an answer to that.
