Lewis Hamilton received a ten-place grid penalty this weekend for replacing the combustion engine. Since Mercedes does not change all engine parts, the team runs the risk of going wrong at the end of the season. Christian Horner knows that too.

Red Bull Racing's team boss decided to put a new engine in Verstappen's car during the Russian Grand Prix, forcing the Dutchman to start the race completely at the back. Partly due to the weather conditions, Verstappen then managed to finish in second place, limiting the loss of places.

Verstappen therefore seems to be well placed for the rest of the season, although Horner knows that things can also be so different. "There is no complete certainty and there can always be a plot twist or a strange turn of events," he said in conversation with Motorsport.com. "In that respect we have to wait and see how practice unfolds, although we did put ourselves in a very good position by taking those extra parts with us in Russia."

Red Bull disappointing first day

The Austrian team could not be satisfied with the first two free practices in Turkey. The difference with rival Mercedes was present in every sector, which means the team will have to work hard to improve Verstappen's start to qualifying.
