The hot topic of this Formula 1 season is of course the title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Even Jenson Button had to go into it in his interview with Luxury London where he was asked about the state of affairs in Formula 1 and of course the title fight came up.

Crash at Monza was Verstappen's fault

The Formula One world champion was asked several questions, including a few about Formula One right now and the title fight that everyone is talking about. The question he was asked first was logically about the crash between the Brit and the Dutchman at the Italian Grand Prix and Button admits it certainly won't be the last time.

"I think it was more Verstappen’s fault – the door was always going to close into turn two. So more Max's fault, but I think at Silverstone the incident they had between them was more Lewis' fault. But, you know, neither of them want to give an inch. And that's what happens in racing and I'm sure it's not going to be the last time," the Brit said.

World Championship could go either way

Button was also asked about the world championship in general. At the moment Hamilton has two points more than Verstappen, but because of that the championship could actually go either way according to Button and that's simultaneously what makes it so interesting.

"I don't know! And that's why the 2021 championship is one of the best I've watched! Two points between them [at the time of writing] and it's either of them who could take the title. The great thing is two very different drivers, two very different teams. And competitive on very different types of circuits. So yeah, great to watch," he says.

Russell must be himself

The seven-time world champion will have a new teammate next year as George Russell takes the seat next to him and Valtteri Bottas moves to Alfa Romeo. Sure enough, Button was also asked what he thinks of the fact that Russell will be driving for Mercedes.

"I don't think he needs any advice, really. I think the main thing is just to be himself – he's got his head screwed on and he is a good person. He has the raw talent, he works hard. So yeah, I think going in there not trying to be something he isn't – just be himself," Button said.
