In 2022 Formula 1 will welcome a new Grand Prix on its calendar. On May 8th, the Miami Grand Prix will be held around the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. But next to F1, the circuit is also aiming for a spot on the IndyCar and NASCAR calendar.

More than just Formula 1 in Miami

The construction of the Miami International Autodrome is still in full swing, but the organisers are already thinking beyond Formula 1. The circuit will also be part of the IndyCar and NASCAR calendar. It will not be easy to welcome multiple events on the brand new circuit in the United States.

"I think it’s possible, but the limited time window from the scheduling standpoint is really the challenge," managing partner Tom Garfinkel let us know in conversation with RACER.com. In addition to other sporting events, the hot summer months in Miami are also in the way.

"Before the race we’ve got the Miami Open tennis tournament in late March every year, and [American] football season before that. So it’ll be limited to what we can do on the track in terms of these events," Garfinkel continued. He admitted that the track and the whole experience is designed primarily around the Formula One event.

Three Grands Prix in America

Garfinkel's big dream is that in addition to the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas and the Miami GP, there will be a third American race on the F1 calendar. In this way Garfinkel thinks that the sport can only grow in the United States.
